Backlinking Strategy: Building the Indirect Layer
The next phase in your backlinking strategy after you have built your layer of direct links is to promote these articles and blog posts by linking directly to them and not your money site.
Before you start step 3 of this backlinking strategy you will want to make sure that all the articles and blog posts that you wrote for step 2 and submitted have actually been published. If you have them pasted into the spreadsheet that is even better because it makes things go fast and smooth.
Step 3 is divided into a couple of subdivisions. Social bookmarking, RSS submissions, Mass Article Submissions, and something I like to call “pingback syndication”. The spreadsheet only has space for Bookmarking and Article submissions. But, it’s still pretty easy to keep track of them.
This blog post will specifically talk about social bookmarking and save RSS, Pingback syndication, and Article submission to later posts.
Backlinking Strategy With Social Bookmarking
The first and easiest thing that you are going to do in this first phase of step 3 is social bookmarking. You will want to submit your URLs to at least the main bookmarking services like Digg, Reddit, Stumbleupon and others. If you are already using Social Marker, Social Poster, Only Wire, or some other service, just add the URLs from step 2 to these services.
But there’s a different way that you can get a whole lot more bookmarks by having others submit your URLs for you. There are 3 tools that let others submit your URLs for free. Even though these have paid versions, there’s no reason to sign up for them at this point (unless you really want to) because their free services will cover what we’re doing here.
3 Tools You Need For Your Backlinking Strategy
Each one has a slightly different network of bookmarking sites that it submits to. Each also has a slightly different user interface but still are pretty user friendly. The very first one you should sign up for is Social Monkee. This is because they actually have a browser plugin that lets you submit any page that you land on. This makes it easy. I just wrote a post on this one, BTW.
The next is Social Adr which is also good and is continually being updated with more functions. And the 3rd is IMAutomator. This last service has a glitch in the login process where you (at least I am) are redirected to a login page 2 times after logging in. What I do is just keep inputting my username and password and I get in on the 3rd try. It also will drip submit your bookmarks automatically over a couple of weeks so that your link building looks a little more natural
I have put links to each of these services in the side bar for anyone to take a look at. As a reference and resource to all interested I will continue to add more services that I find that are free or have a free option. So, to recap, what you need to do at this point is get the URLs to all the articles and blog posts that you have submitted and, after signing up to these social bookmarking services, submit your backlinks to them.
