Backlinks Checker Tool: 3 Free Options

Wanted: Good Backlinks Checker Tool

Finding a good backlinks checker tool is important for anyone link building. But, it’s pretty frustrating going to Google to check your backlinks only to find out that Google apparently doesn’t know that you’ve been actively building backlinks for several months.

I just did that for a couple of my sites that have been active for several months now. And Google hadn’t indexed any backlinks to the sites yet. I am not sure why this is. I have noticed that I am not the only one who has questions about this either.

There are other options for a good backlinks checker tool. While there are some paid services and tools, there are also some pretty good free ones out there too. Here’s a look at 3 of them:

3 Free Backlinks Checker Tools

Open Site Explorer

This is part of the SEOmoz array of cool tools. As you may (or, may not) know, the SEOmoz crew is all about developing SEO software tools. They have provided the OpenSiteExplorer as a free tool for anyone to use. It doesn’t give you a report on all your links but let’s you know some of the important ones from important domains. They have a subscription plan that gives a lot

Yahoo Site Explorer

Yahoo does a good job letting you know who is linking to your site. Again, I am sure that it’s not counting each and every backlink made to the site but it gives you a better view of where your links are coming from. Yahoo is also the source of backlink information integrated into the incredible Market Samurai keyword tool. This fact alone should be an indication of whether it’s reliable or not.

MajesticSEO

This is another service like SEOmoz. From Majestic’s own site there say that their mission is to “provide Competitor backlinks intelligence to SEO specialists. We believe we are the planet’s most comprehensive backlinks information provider, and offer a number of tools to access to this valuable resource.

They have several other tools and reports that are available and they also have a paid service that provides much more information about your site and link building efforts.

In another post I wrote about the need for patience when trying to build backlinks. Even though you don’t see some of the backlinks that you think you should have doesn’t mean that they aren’t there. Just keep building them and from time to time use one or more of the backlinks checker tool to see how you’re doing.
